A postal last line can narrow a Caddo Parish search, but it does not draw the same boundary as a town, precinct, parcel, or parish. Use the Caddo Parish ZIP code directory to identify the likely community, then verify a full street address with the postal service before checking a voter or property record. Shreveport delivery names can conceal older rural place names, while outlying post offices serve distinct towns and communities. Special-use codes need even more care. To find residents ZIP code by ZIP code, keep the full address, unit, city name, and source date together instead of treating five digits as proof of residence or municipal jurisdiction.

Caddo Parish ZIP Coverage

The official Louisiana service-area list used in the research contains 47 ZIP codes associated with Caddo Parish. It is an administrative coverage list, not a postal boundary file. The older Louisiana Library directory supplies community and post-office associations for many outlying codes. Exact delivery for one address still belongs to USPS.

Other confirmed outlying codes include Bethany 71007, Gilliam 71029, Hosston 71043, and additional Shreveport delivery codes from 71103 through 71129. Static sources did not prove which later 711xx entries are carrier, post-office-box, or unique codes. The Caddo Parish ZIP code directory therefore marks those categories for address-level verification rather than guessing.

Caddo Parish ZIP Communities

The strongest local ZIP quirk is the 71102 cluster. A historical community list places Cecile, Flournoy, Gayles, Lachute, Lucas, and Robson under the Shreveport 71102 last line. That does not make all six places one downtown neighborhood. It shows how postal labels can compress local geography.

Similar pairings appear elsewhere: Forbing under 71106, Caspiana under 71115, Spring Ridge under Keithville 71047, and Zylks under Rodessa 71069. Search both the community name and postal last line in old directories, newspapers, deeds, and archive catalogs. This matters most when a family used a place name that no longer appears in a current mailing format.

Note: A community association from an older state list should be checked against current USPS data before mailing or drawing a boundary.

Verify Caddo Parish ZIP Codes

The USPS ZIP Code Lookup is the final authority for a current street address or city-and-state query.

The search should be run with the complete number, street, unit, city, and state. Preserve the result date because delivery assignments can change.

The USPS explanation of ZIP geography states that ZIP boundaries need not follow municipal lines.

That distinction explains why the Caddo Parish ZIP code directory cannot be read as a city-limit map or proof that an address is governed by Shreveport.

Caddo Parish ZIP Search Fields

The Louisiana Voter Portal uses ZIP as one part of a controlled lookup. It does not publish an open parish household list. Its disclaimer says public voter and address records are kept separate to protect registrants, and protected fields are excluded.

Historic Caddo Parish ZIP Clues

Modern ZIP codes began long after many Caddo Parish family records. The USPS Postmaster Finder accepts a three-digit ZIP prefix and warns that historic post offices may have been discontinued.

The historical office list can connect an old place name to a postal route. It should be paired with city directories, maps, deeds, or tax rolls because a former post office is not a current delivery boundary.

Oil-country names need special care. Parish history places the oil boom around 1904 through 1914 and ties it to Oil City and the Caddo Lake region. Search Oil City, Caddo, Mooringsport, and Caddo Lake separately in historical sources before accepting one geographic match.

Caddo Parish ZIPs Versus Cities

Caddo Parish has eleven municipalities, but its postal system does not form eleven matching shapes. Shreveport is the parish seat and dominant postal last line. Belcher, Blanchard, Gilliam, Greenwood, Hosston, Ida, Mooringsport, Oil City, Rodessa, and Vivian have separate municipal identities, while other community names may sit beneath those postal lines.

City, parish, precinct, parcel, service-area, and ZIP boundaries answer different questions. A 71102 address can carry Shreveport in the mail without proving that an older community name vanished or that every public service comes from the city. A voter precinct cannot be inferred from the ZIP. Property jurisdiction should be checked through the assessor and legal description.

ZIP and ZIP+4
The five-digit delivery area and a more precise four-digit add-on for a smaller delivery segment.
PO-box ZIP
A code used for post-office boxes rather than a broad street-delivery area.
Unique ZIP
A code assigned to one large recipient or institution. No specific Caddo unique-code assignment was proven.
Carrier route
A postal delivery path inside a ZIP, not a municipal or parcel boundary.

Caddo Parish ZIP Addressing

Caddo Public Works issues municipal 9-1-1 addresses and handles subdivision, oil and gas, culvert, and road-crossing permits. Its address approval route is online-only, with questions directed to 318-226-6949. That work establishes a local emergency or situs address. USPS then determines the mailing form and ZIP.

The parish GIS office maintains parcels and street centerlines but says it does not provide GIS data directly to the public. Map requests go through a specified production form, NLCOG, or the Assessor. A ZIP entered on that form identifies the requester’s contact address; it is not a search filter for every parcel within a postal zone.

When an old house number disappears, compare its deed legal description, historical map, city directory street index, and archive material. No official dated Caddo renumbering schedule was found. A clean modern postal result cannot by itself resolve an old address.
